25 Nov THE WORKING REFUGEES

Today the project “THE WORKING REFUGEES” is showing their work in the In Limbo Embassy at the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.

The project was started by advertising students at the Willem de Kooning Academy after they started talking to refugees and discovered the guilt and frustration many refugees feel by living off government subsidies.

In the current situation refugees aren’t allowed to work for the first 6 months of their stay. After this period of time, it is still very unclear when they will get their Dutch working permit.

The Working Refugees explores the possibilities of starting your own company while applying for asylum. By becoming a member of E-Estonia and starting a virtual office in Estonia refugees can legally start their own business.

Their website has detailed instructions for how anyone can become a citizen of E-Estonia and start their own company.
